The Smiths drummer Mike Joyce has introduced his autobiography. The Drums affords a frontline view of the band’s story from “the self-confessed largest Smiths fan on the earth,” because the product description places it. “His off-piste, frank and witty perspective permits him to re-contextualise fan favorite moments by way of a superbly weak, human perception into his life.” The Drums is due for launch on November 6.
New Trendy, an imprint of HMV proprietor Doug Putman’s new Putman Publishing home, is behind the publication. Past worldwide postage, particulars of a North American launch haven’t been revealed.
In 2013, Morrissey revealed the primary Smiths memoir, the marginally infamous Autobiography, which he managed to get launched through the august imprint Penguin Classics. Johnny Marr adopted swimsuit with Set the Boy Free in 2016.
Smiths bassist Andy Rourke, who performed alongside Joyce with Sinéad O’Connor after the band’s dissolution, died of pancreatic most cancers in 2023.
